Often, when people face life’s challenges, they look for ways to get high to forget their troubles and sorrows. They turn to alcohol, tobacco, or drugs just to escape. But guess what? After the high fades and they regain consciousness, the problems they were running from remain unchanged. Why is this? Getting high does not solve anything. It only provides temporary relief, and eventually, everything returns to reality.
Instead of seeking a high to escape life’s challenges, why not follow the counsel given in the Scriptures? The Bible says, Do not get drunk with wine, which will only ruin you; instead, be filled with the Spirit. —Ephesians 5:18 (GNT). In other words, rather than getting drunk with wine and ruining your life, it is best to be filled with the Holy Spirit and stirred by Him.
Someone might ask, “Why the Holy Spirit?” He is the Spirit who proceeds from the Father (John 15:26). He is the one who brings life and change. He quickens us and makes dead situations come alive. If you truly want to change your situation, getting high with alcohol or any other substance will not help. Instead, immerse yourself in the Holy Spirit by praying in the Spirit and tarrying there. When you do this consistently, you will find the change you seek, and you will not be depressed or discouraged.
I encourage you today to avoid getting high in a bid to run away from your present challenges. Rather, pray in the Spirit, stir up His power within you, and your life will not remain the same. The feeling you get when you do this far outweighs the high from alcohol or any other substance. Being filled with the Holy Spirit does not just temporarily alter your state; it provides a permanent solution to your situation. So, what are you waiting for? Stir yourself up today through prayer and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Hallelujah!
