“…let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others…” Philippians 2:4 (NKJV)

When you hear about the terrible news going on around the world, does it bother you? Does it make you stop to think for a while? Or you just move on with your life thinking these things are not your business? Well, I have news for you. As a Christian, it’s important you understand that the happenings in the world should be a concern to you because you are the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13-14). It should create in you a burden that drives you to your knees to pray and intercede for the people around the world. But sadly that is not the case today. We are sometimes too focused on ourselves that we forget what others around are going through. We are too occupied with our various pursuits to the point that we completely forget that we have a responsibility towards others.

However, this has to change, because God wants us to become concerned Christians. He wants us to become the solution to our world and therefore expects us to begin to take up the responsibility of showing some concern about what is going on around us so that we can pray about it. He doesn’t want us to ignore these happenings because that is an irresponsible way to live. He brought us into this world and saved us so that we can become the answer to the cry of millions. He brought us into this world so that we can show forth His glory and be His representative. Therefore, make a conscious decision to become concerned about what is happening around you. It is only when you are concerned that you will pray and it is only when you pray that some of these things can be arrested and peace will be released. So I encourage you today to look beyond yourself and start showing concern for others. In our opening text, the bible clearly says that “…let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others…” Philippians 2:4 (NKJV). In Galatians 6:2, the Bible says, “…bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ…” So what do you think? Become a responsible Christian today and fulfill your ministry to the world “…for the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God…” Romans 8:20. Halleluiah!
