“…for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries…” 1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV)

Now, that we have seen that speaking or praying in tongues is not optional, you might say but I prefer to pray in my understanding because I am not used to speaking in tongues. Well, that can be understood but you need to understand that praying in your own understanding alone, limits your prayers in so many ways. With your understanding, there is little you can achieve in prayer because our understanding is grossly limited. It is for this reason, the Bible admonished us saying, “…lean not in your own understanding…” Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV), why because our understanding has limitations. If all you do is pray with your understanding, there are certain matters that will never get resolved in your life, because you are praying according to what you can see, feel and hear, meanwhile what you are confronting, is beyond the senses. Beloved, you must understand that life is spiritual, everything we face in life begins from the realms of the spirit and if these issues are going to be resolved, it must first be resolved in the realms of the spirit before it is resolved in the physical.

So, if you truly want to resolve these issues in the realms of the spirit, it won’t happen by praying in your understanding. Therefore, you must cultivate the habit of praying in tongues often. At first, it may not be so easy but if you continue, it will become a part of you. Paul the Apostle understood the importance of this truth and he said, “if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful”. Now, he didn’t stop there, he said “what is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding.” 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NKJV). Did you see that? This is coming from a man who had such wonderful results and wrote a lot of books in the New Testament. Praying in tongues comes before praying with understanding.

So, I encourage you today to pray more in tongues than in your understanding. Let your understanding be used more for making decrees while praying in tongues will be for declaring mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2). But above all, remember that the book of Romans 8:26 says, “…likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself make intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered…”. So, because we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, it is best to pray in tongues often. Praise God!

TODAY’S RHEMA

When you pray in tongues, you are unlimited, but when you pray in your understanding, you are limited!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Glorious and Ever-living Father, I thank you for the privilege of being able to pray in tongues, I choose this day to take advantage of this privilege and as I do, I operate in higher dimensions of grace in the name of Jesus! Amen!
