“…offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the most high…” Psalms 50:14 (NKJV)

When we go through some difficult periods in our lives we tend to remind God of His promises to us in His Word. And we expect Him to fulfil these promises in our lives. But how often do we remember the vows, pledges and promises that we have made to the Lord in the past? In most cases we don’t, because we either forget the vow we have made, or we don’t treat it seriously. But truth is that, whether we like it or not, God takes our vows seriously and expects us to do the same. He doesn’t want us to form the habit of making vows and not fulfilling them. It affects our integrity with God and hence might be an issue to us at some point . In fact the blessings that are supposed to come to us when we fulfil our vows never come because we didn’t fulfil them. Therefore, it is important that we take our vows seriously. In Ecclesiastes 5:4, the Bible says “…when you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed…” Did you see that? This is an express instruction of wisdom given to us and we are under obligation to carry it out. It didn’t only ask us to pay our vows, it says “do not delay to pay your vows”
So I admonish you today, to remember the vows, pledges and promises you have made to the Lord and make plans to fulfil them. When you do, that’s when you take advantage of the power that goes with vows. But if you don’t, even though vows are powerful enough to change your life, they won’t do anything significant in your life because you didn’t fulfil your end of the bargain. So do the needful today and fulfil your vows. Remember the story of Hannah who was barren for so many years until she made a vow to the Lord and broke that case of barrenness. The Bible recorded that when God remembered her and gave her a male child, she brought back the child to the Lord as promised (1 Samuel 1:27-28) and guess what, God opened her womb completely and gave her more children (three sons and two daughters) (1 Samuel 2:21). That’s what happens when you make a vow and fulfil the vow.

TODAY’S RHEMA

If you want to take advantage of the power of vows, redeem your vows!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Glorious God, I thank you for reminding me today of the need to pay my vows. I choose this day pay my vows, fulfil my pledges and keep my promises. I refuse to allow any form of distractions in this area in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
