Keep Your Mind Fixed on Heavenly Matters

Path leading to heaven, man stands in front of the Paradise gates

Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth. —Colossians 3:2 (GNT)

Beloved, as you grow in your relationship with God, you must learn to direct your thoughts toward heavenly things. This means allowing God’s kingdom, His truth, and His purposes to shape the way you live on earth. Unfortunately, many believers become so consumed by material possessions, social recognition, financial success, and the pursuit of personal pleasure that they gradually lose sight of what matters most in their relationship with God. They spend their time chasing temporary things while neglecting the spiritual values that should guide their lives. However, God wants you to live with an eternal perspective and remember that your life should reflect the priorities of His kingdom.

Someone might ask, “But does keeping my mind on heavenly matters mean that I should stop caring about earthly responsibilities?” No, it does not. God expects you to fulfill your earthly responsibilities, work diligently, care for your family, and contribute positively to the lives of others. The difference is that you do these things with values shaped by your relationship with Christ. You do not allow material things to become your master or let temporary pleasures replace your commitment to God. Remember, Jesus said:

…be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you… —Matthew 6:33 (GNT)

This verse reminds you to make God’s will your priority as you go about your daily activities.

Therefore, I admonish you to make a conscious decision to keep your mind fixed on heavenly matters. Evaluate your priorities and consider whether the things that occupy your attention are helping you grow spiritually. Spend time in God’s Word, practice love and generosity, and make decisions that honor Him. Enjoy the good things God provides, but do not allow them to distract you from your purpose. Let the hope of eternal life influence the way you live today, and use your time and resources in ways that reflect the values of God’s kingdom.

Today’s Rhema

Keep eternity in view, and let God’s kingdom shape your priorities on earth!

Prayer

Father, I thank You for reminding me to keep my mind on heavenly things. Help me to establish the right priorities and live according to Your purposes. Teach me to fulfill my earthly responsibilities while maintaining an eternal perspective and a heart devoted to You, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
