For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. —Hebrews 6:10 (NKJV)
Have you ever helped someone and wondered if it made any difference? Have you been caring for a family member, encouraging a friend, or doing your best to serve without hearing a simple “thank you”? Well, don’t despair; these things happen. Most times, when your effort goes unnoticed, it’s easy to feel tired or wonder whether your kindness matters. But whatever the case may be, it is important to hold on to what the scripture says.
In Hebrews 6:10, the Bible says:
God is not unfair. He will not forget the work you did or the love you showed for him in the help you gave and are still giving to other Christians. —Hebrews 6:10 (GNB)
Did you see that? In another translation, the Bible says:
For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. —Hebrews 6:10 (NKJV)
Now, this verse reminds us that God sees the care we show. A kind word, a listening ear, a prayer, or a helping hand in God’s vineyard or to God’s people or servants may seem small, but it can be a real way to show love. You may not see a quick result, and people may not always notice what you do. But that doesn’t mean your efforts are in vain. Keep doing good because you love God and care about people, not only because you hope someone will praise you, but because God sees the sincere things you are doing that others may not see.
However, you must also understand that loving others doesn’t mean you have to do everything or never rest. You can ask someone to share the work. You can take a break when you’re tired. And you can set a wise boundary when you need to, so that you don’t break under the pressure of helping others. All in all, caring for others matters, but as you do this, don’t neglect yourself, because you matter too.
But know that God sees your labor of love, and He will reward you when the time comes. A perfect example of this is the story of Dorcas in the Bible. The Bible says:
At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did. But it happened in those days that she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them. Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them. But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord. —Acts 9:36–42 (NKJV)
Did you see that? Her kindness toward others became the voice that spoke for her when she couldn’t speak, and it became the reason intercession was made for her. God honored that prayer.
Therefore, I admonish you today to keep doing good, whether men see it or not. Ask God to show you one simple way to encourage or help someone today. Do what you can with a willing heart, and trust God to reward you when the time comes.
