“…I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing….” John 15:5 (NKJV)

When Jesus Christ died for you on the cross of Calvary, the intention was not just to die for your sins alone, but also to restore you to that place of relationship. Before He came, man was separated from God through the disobedience of the first man Adam. Man died a spiritual death and as such was alienated from God. But when Jesus Christ came, He first dealt with that which was preventing man from having a relationship with God, which was sin. That was why He (Jesus), who knew no sin, was made sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21) Now, all this was done intentionally so that our relationship with God can be restored. Today, we have a relationship with God because the Bible says “…you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” Romans 8:15-17 (NKJV). Did you see that?

The question now is, what do you do with this relationship? Most people don’t realize that they are supposed to regularly invest in that relationship and be consistent in their relationship with God. They feel that all they needed to do was receive Jesus into their lives and that’s it. But it doesn’t stop there. Receiving Jesus into your life is only the beginning of the relationship, you must learn to go beyond just receiving Him into your life to having an actual relationship with Him. You must learn to invest in the relationship daily and preserve that relationship because when you leave this world, you take nothing with you except the relationship you have with Jesus. It is that relationship that is going to speak for you in the afterlife and help you to have the kind of eternity that God has destined for you. Remember, life goes beyond this world or this earth. After this life, there is another life, and what helps you in that life, is your union with God in Christ Jesus. So, I admonish you today, to consciously work on your relationship with the Father. Be intentional about it and choose to invest in it daily for as long as you live. The relationship that works is the one that attention is given to regularly. Praise God!
