“….one thing you lack; Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come and take up the cross, and follow Me”. But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions….”

Mark 10:21-22 (NKJV)

The Bible tells us the story of a rich young man who approached Jesus and asked: “Good teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” And Jesus answered him and said you know the commandments; Do not commit adultery; Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour your father and your mother” So the young man answered saying, “ Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth” Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “ one thing you lack; Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure  in heaven; and come take up the cross and follow Me” But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possession…”Mark 10:17-22. He kept all the commandments, but he couldn’t forsake his riches and follow Jesus Christ. He was so attached to worldly possessions that he couldn’t let go of them for eternal life. He didn’t understand that to have eternal life there is a price to pay. So as long as he wasn’t willing to let go of his possessions, he was not ready to walk the path of eternal life.

Beloved, the same thing applies today, if you will walk the path of eternal life, you must follow Jesus who is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6). But to follow Jesus, it is not enough to accept Him into your life, you must be willing to forsake all to follow Him. You must be willing to detach yourself from all worldly attachments because you can’t have them both. This is a reality you must face as a Christian which many are not willing to face today. If you choose to pursue them both, you will lose them. Jesus Christ said, “…if anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny  himself (disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interest) and take up his cross and follow Me (cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and if need be, in dying, also) for whoever is bent on saving his (temporal) life (his comfort and security) shall lose it (eternal life);and whoever loses his life (his comfort and security here) for my sake shall find it (everlasting life)…” Matthew 16:24-25 (AMPC).

Therefore, I encourage you today to embrace this truth. Christianity is not one foot in the world and one foot in Christ. You must choose who you will follow: Jesus or the world! Also, when we say forsake all, it doesn’t mean you become so heavenly conscious that you become earthly useless, we are only saying let your passion for Jesus and His Word surpass your passion for worldly achievements. That’s the spirit of Christianity. Praise God!

TODAY’S RHEMA

Let your passion for Jesus and His Word surpass your passion for worldly achievements!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Heavenly Father, I thank you for reminding me of the priority in life. I choose this day to follow Jesus wholeheartedly and passionately. Every unreasonable attachment to worldly pursuit comes to an end today and by the power of the Holy Ghost, the grace to focus on Jesus and His word rest on me. Praise God!
