“…let my prayer be set before you as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice…” Psalms 141:2 (NKJV)

As you journey in your Christian walk, one of the things you must learn to do is to always lift up Holy hands when you pray and worship the Lord. As simple as that might sound, it can go a long way to redefine the way you worship the Lord. The Psalmist had an understanding of this and he said, “…let my prayer be set before you as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice…” Psalms 141:2 (NKJV). He understood the power of lifting up Holy hands, so for that reason, he prayed to God saying, let the lifting up my hands be as the evening sacrifice. The question is do you understand the role that this plays in your worship life? Far too many of God’s people don’t understand the importance and the symbolism of lifting up Holy hands, so when they are in church and worship is going on, they just fold their hands and watch as though nothing is happening. In most cases, you will have to encourage them to lift up their hands before they do so, which shouldn’t be the case.

You must understand that the lifting up of your hands in the place of prayer or worship, is an act of worship itself. It shows your disconnection from the things of this world and your submission/surrender to God and who He is in your life. It is also a confession of your victory in Christ Jesus and guess what? It has many other symbolisms which cannot even be explained in words. So, when you worship or pray in your bedroom or you find yourself in church, you must learn to lift up your hands in worship. In most cases when you do this, you command the attention of angels and in other cases when you do this, you are provoking the power of God to action in your life and on your behalf. You remember the story of the battle between the Israelites and the Amalekites. The Bible recorded that as long as Moses lifted up His hands on that mountain, Israel prevailed against their enemies, but whenever Moses brought his hands down, the Amalekites prevailed. So, Moses got assistants and kept his hands up. Now, as long as his hands were lifted up, Israel prevailed and got the victory (Scripture reference: Exodus 17:8-14). When we take a look at this story here, we see that truly there is something significant about the lifting up of our hands. Paul understood this also and said, “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting…”1 Timothy 2:8 (NKJV) So, as you continue in your Christian walk, make the lifting up of your hands a part of your worship life. Praise God!
