“. . . be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom to devour . . .” —1 Peter 5:8

There is something about a competition, especially one that comes with a great reward. Let us take a football match as an example. Their coach enlightens those who play in a team on what to expect from the team they will be playing against. And how do they do that? They collect previous videos and watch different games their opponent participated in. It shows them the strength and strategy of the opponent. With this knowledge in the mind of the footballers, they know who to attack, and how to defend themselves. Now, most times people do not know that the knowledge they have of the schemes and strategy of the adversary will help them overcome his every plan and strategy. The opening scripture clearly states that we should be vigilant, and to do this there must be a careful study and an awareness of how the devil operates and how to recognize him in various situations we find ourselves.

Any Christian vigilant enough to recognize the hand of the enemy in any matter should also develop skills to defeat the enemy. This means we Christians are not supposed to be ignorant but knowledgeable. When I say a Christian should be knowledgeable, I am saying that a Christian should walk in awareness, should be conscious, should have clarity, should have an understanding of what God can do, what He has done and what He is doing. And a Christian should also be aware of the way the enemy (the devil) operates and should be able to identify his works when it’s displayed. There are things we are expected to know, so we can use them to win in our everyday life. A Christian should be aware of the power and authority in the name of Jesus and how it works. A Christian should know that without faith it is impossible to win or overcome any situation or challenge. A Christian should know that nothing is impossible with God. A Christian should also be well equipped with the word of God so that he can walk in the light rather than in darkness. The lack of all these would mean ignorance. And the bible clearly states in Hosea 4:6 “. . . my people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. . .” Therefore, go for knowledge and do not stay ignorant, so you can use the knowledge to win all the way. Amen!
