“So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God” Luke 12:21 (NKJV)

Being rich and wealthy is one thing, but another thing is to be rich towards God and in the sight of God. As simple as this might sound, it holds a very important truth I will be sharing with you today. Many have not differentiated this in their lives, they think life is all about being rich but after that what next? Is it to build houses, own several businesses and have a fat bank account? Is that all? Well there is more, you need to understand that wealth that does not affect other lives, spread the Gospel and increase righteousness is as good as useless. When God gives wealth, He does so, so that you could become His channel of blessings to His people and a vessel to be used to take the good news of salvation to the world. He does not give you wealth so that only you and you alone will have it to yourself. No, He wants you to use it to honour Him, put a smile on someone’s face and give hope to somebody out there who has got no hope. When you do this, then you are rich in the eyes of God.

Jesus gave a parable of a certain rich man whose ground yielded plentifully. And he taught within himself, saying, “What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops? So he said, I will do this; I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry” but God said to him, “fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided? “So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God” Luke 12:16-21. This man became so rich and he didn’t know what else to do with his riches. He did not think about doing something for God in appreciation for what God has done for him. He did not think of reaching out to the poor and or extending his blessings to people who need it, all he thought about was himself alone. So God had to demand for his life that day. Now Jesus said, so is the case of people who lay up treasure for themselves, and are not rich towards God. You’ve got to make up your mind to become rich towards God. God’s blessings upon your life should reflect in the spreading of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. It should put smiles on the faces of many, and it should reflect in the house of God. You cannot be blessed and still your church lack rent, or the comfort that is required to serve God comfortably. You cannot be blessed and many are hungry around you. It’s something you must consider, don’t be sentimentally attached to money that you cannot let go, it will hold you back in life in so many things. Therefore prove your love today for God, use that which He has blessed you with to increase righteousness and bring glory to His name. Halleluiah!
