Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. —Mark 1:17-18 (NKJV)
Having established the importance of following willingly in the first part of this article, we see this clearly when Jesus asked Simon and Andrew to follow Him. These fishermen didn’t argue or try to negotiate their way out of it. Instead, the Bible shows us that they left everything behind. They walked away from their jobs and started a new journey with Jesus. The Scripture doesn’t record any resistance, objections, or alternate opinions about what they should be doing instead. They simply left their nets and started to follow Him.
The interesting thing about the disciples was that they didn’t know where they were going. They had no beautiful places to sleep or rest, nor were they promised gold or silver for following Jesus. All He had to offer them was the message of the Kingdom, something they could not physically see with their eyes or hold in their hands. Yet, they believed His message and followed Him without seeking material gain. They loved being in the Lord’s presence and focused entirely on the salvation of their souls rather than worldly desires.
The early disciples took their focus off themselves and placed it squarely on the work of the Kingdom. Today, we still talk about them and reference the way they followed Jesus because they were selfless and willing. This is exactly how it should be for you as a Christian. When you follow Him with this same willingness, you will see the promises of God manifest in your life effortlessly. Hallelujah!

Prayer
Father, I am so grateful for Your word today. I decree by the power of Your Spirit that the grace to follow willingly and not reluctantly is at work in me. As I follow, the blessings of true followership follow me, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
