“…when pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom…” Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV)

Beloved, as you journey in your Christian walk, one of the things you must avoid is spiritual pride. It is not always obvious because it has a subtle nature. However, if it exists in your life, it could bring you down in no time and keep you there for a long time. Trust me, spiritual pride can destroy a man and it has destroyed a lot of people over the years and this is why I am addressing it in this article, that you may know. The question is, what is spiritual pride? This is a kind of pride, where you look down on people and sometimes believe that you are more anointed than them or you are holier than them or that you are more spiritually mature than them. Now, I know this might sound shocking but many people are exhibiting this now in their lives and even the Bible addressed something similar, which I would like to bring to your attention today. In the book of Luke 18:10-13, our Lord Jesus Christ gave a parable saying, “…two men went up the temple to pray, one a pharisee and the other a tax collector. The pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank You that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God’ be merciful to me a sinner!”

When we take a look at these two men here, we find that they both went to God in prayer and one of them was busy talking to God about how perfect he was. He even went as far as comparing himself with the other man, saying “I am not like the other men or even this tax collector” Did you see that? Now, that is spiritual pride. He only spoke this way, because this was how he thought in his mind. The content of his prayer revealed the way he thinks about himself and others. And guess what? He didn’t leave that place justified, because our Lord Jesus Christ, said the man who was asking God to be merciful to him, went home justified than the one who was exalting himself (Luke 18:14a). How sad! Beloved if you truly want to climb higher and higher in your life and make a great impact, you must avoid spiritual pride. Always remember that whatever you have and wherever you are now, is a product of God’s grace and mercy. Humility recognizes this grace and mercy, but pride ignores it and recognizes self. Do not fall for this trap for our Lord Jesus Christ has said, “…everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted….” Luke 18:14 (NKJV)

TODAY’S RHEMA

Beloved if you truly want to climb higher and higher in your life and make a great impact, you must avoid spiritual pride.

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Glorious and ever-living Father, I thank you for your word today. I decree that every spiritual pride is uprooted from me and the spirit of humility is exhaustively at work in me in Jesus name. Amen!
