“…through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous…” Romans 5:18-19 (NKJV)

One of the thoughts that have plagued many of God’s children in Christ Jesus is “I’m not righteous” They think about this in a way that ends up driving them to a place of condemnation, because they have been wrongly taught on the scripture that says “we are all like an unclean thing. And all our righteousness are like filthy rags….” Isaiah 64:4 (NKJV). However, they fail to understand that there is a difference between the days before the sacrifice and now. They also fail to understand what righteousness truly means. Beloved, you need to understand that, righteousness in the first place is not your actions but a nature. I know this might sound very shocking to you but that’s the truth. It is a nature and it is this nature that gives birth to the actions. What most people do is to focus on the actions which is the fruit and not the root which is the nature. But you must unlearn what you have learnt in the recent past so that you can relearn.

The issue of righteousness is this; when the first Adam was created, he was intact until he sinned and fell from grace. When he fell from grace, he became short of the glory of God and his righteousness was corrupted as well. This affected all of mankind because the bible says in our opening scripture that “…through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting to condemnation…” Romans 5:18 (NKJV) But our Lord Jesus Christ came and changed the game through His ultimate sacrifice. The bible recorded that through His righteous act the free gift of righteousness came to all men resulting in justification of life for as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous…” Romans 5:18-19 (NKJV). So today, through the obedience of Jesus Christ, righteousness has been made available to all those who believe in Him. “…for He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him…” 2 Corinthians 5:21. As Christians, it is important to know that you no longer have a personal righteousness, what you have now is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. That’s why the bible says, “…no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption – that as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord…”1 Corinthians 1:17 (NKJV). So take your focus off your righteousness and fix it on Jesus who is now our righteousness. He gave it to you as a gift, therefore receive it, accept it and start seeing yourself as righteous as Jesus is. You might say but what if I still make mistakes and stumble in the word, does that mean I am still righteous? Yes, you are still the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus who is still growing in righteousness. And one day you will come up to maturity. Praise God!
