“…beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God…” Hebrews 3:12 (NKJV)

Having studied the Bible, it is clear why we need to preach the message of Christ so that every unbeliever will receive the word of grace for repentance. Satan is looking to destroy many and what he holds dearly is the heart of men because this is where their faith comes from, this is where their beliefs come from. In the opening scripture, we see a very shocking description of a heart that does not believe in God. The writer of the book of Hebrews calls it an evil heart. Why? Because a heart that does not believe in God is capable of doing evil. So, this lets us know that the person behind unbelief is Satan and it’s important that we guard our heart diligently so that Satan does not turn our belief into unbelief. In the Bible days, we saw this play out with the children of Israel many times. On so many occasions, we saw how they went from faith and commitment to God to a place of unbelief, doubt and idolatry.

We can see an example of their murmurings and complaints in Numbers 14:2-3, where the Bible says “…all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”. Now, they said all these to the hearing of God even though God had done great and mighty works in their midst. If there was anyone whose faith was supposed to be stronger, it should have been the children of Israel because they saw real life miracles and wonders, but those miraculous acts didn’t matter to them, because Satan was after their heart and he plotted against them using their beliefs. Guess what? And, when the Lord heard their complaints and murmurings, He marvelled saying, “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?” Numbers 14:11 (NKJV). Did you see that? The signs and wonders that they witnessed and experienced, didn’t change anything because Satan already got to their heart. So, to avoid things like this, you must stand firm in your faith and beliefs in God. Refuse to allow the devil get to your heart and poison it with unbelief. Remember an unbelieving heart Is simply evil and that is not the place God wants you to be. Hallelujah!
