“…but God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another…”1 Corinthians 12:24-25 (NKJV)

Over the years, one of the things I have noticed about lots of people is that they have a wrong mindset towards the church. Many think the church is there to help them whenever they need help. Some others think the church is just a place they go to receive the word of God and leave without contributing anything to the church. Some others feel the church is the responsibility of a group of people, so because of that, they don’t participate or contribute to the growth and development of the church. But I have got news for you. As a Christian, you must understand that you are the church, you make the church what it is. The church is not the responsibility of the pastor and leaders alone, but the responsibility of the believers in general. We all have our roles to play and the best thing that can happen to you as a believer is to play your role diligently and committedly because in it lies your blessings. Refuse to be among those who believe the church is just there to meet their needs, rather enlist yourself amongst those who believe and know that they have a responsibility towards the house of the Lord, and they will stop at nothing to ensure that they put in their best at all times.

To understand how serious your responsibilities are towards the church, let us take a look at the early church and how they responded in those days. The Bible says, “…now the multitude of those who believed were of heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own but they had all things in common. And with great power the Apostles gave witness of the resurrection of the Lord. And great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands and houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the Apostles feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need…” Acts 4:32:35 (NKJV). Did you see that? They all had one mind, and whatever it is they had they sold it and brought the proceeds to the apostles who then distributed it according to each person’s needs. Now, something I wanted you to take note of here is that, they all had a sense of responsibility towards the church, so they all contributed towards the church and great grace was upon them all. Beloved, this is how we ought to respond towards the church. We need to have a sense of responsibility towards the church and do all we can to make contributions, not just in monetary terms but also in rendering our services and giving out time to making sure the church of Jesus Christ moves forward. Now, does this mean the church should not help people when they are in need? Of course not. But while that is happening, be a part of those who are contributing to the growth of the church. Hallelujah!
