“…that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing…”1 Thessalonians 4: 11:12 (NKJV)
Something I love about the scripture is that it has the answer to almost every issue of concern in life. Although not every issue has been expressly addressed but somehow you will find related issue that have been addressed already. One of such issues that the scripture has expressly addressed is the issue of lack. And it says if you want to avoid lack, work with your hands. In other words do something that will generate you income because when you do, lack will not be your lot. Now, having seen this in the scripture, your responsibility as a Christian is to fight lack with all vehemence, using this simple principle. Say no to idleness and start doing something legal that will profit you in the long run. You might say I have tried something earlier but it didn’t work out right. Well, you may have to try again. The fact that you tried the first time and it failed does not mean that is what will be the order of the day. A lot of times, the first, second and third try might not work out as planned, but trust me if you stay determined and persistent, you will surely achieve your goal. But do not be tempted to stop trying because to stop trying is to start dying. If everybody who tried something the first time and quit because they didn’t succeed, there wouldn’t be successful people on earth today.
Therefore, I encourage you to keep at it and keep getting better at what you do. Improve yourself, learn new skills and keep pushing. If you are into business, seek to expand it and if it is a job you are looking for, seek to get one by all means and if you are already employed, seek to be the best in your workplace, because these are the keys to defeating lack and poverty once and for all. Remember poverty is not God’s design from the very beginning and even now it is not His plans for any of His children. He has made all grace to abound to you in Christ Jesus. He has endowed you with all that you require to be rich and has also made available natural materials that can be harnessed and converted to money, but you have to be willing to work with your hands and do something. The Bible says, “…if anyone will not work, neither shall he eat…” in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV). Hallelujah!
