So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct. Submit to God and accept the word that he plants in your hearts, which is able to save you. (James 1:21 GNT)

Humans are generally creatures of habit, and habits are formed when we repeat a particular action consistently. Now, if you are not intentional, you could develop negative habits that could be jeopardizing your life and destiny without you even knowing it. Unfortunately, many of God’s people have developed some very detrimental habits over the years that have brought them all kinds of challenges. Some have even developed habits that have made them slaves to the flesh, and this is not what God wants for your life.

So, as you walk with God, make a deliberate effort to get rid of habits that you know could be causing a hindrance in your life. Do all you can to identify anything that has become a negative habit and deal with it. Something seemingly small, like watching television for hours, could be a habit that hinders you in many different ways. It could make you spiritually dull and heavy. It could make your spiritual vision blurry and negatively impact your perception. Most importantly, it could cause you to waste so much of your precious time. This is just one example among the many habits that could be holding you back.

Therefore, be encouraged today to watch out for those negative habits that could be destroying things in your life without you realizing it. You must understand that all habits have consequences. There is something they are either adding to or taking away from your life. That is why our opening text says, “So get rid of every filthy habit…” (James 1:21 GNT). Align yourself with this instruction and focus on developing the right habits instead. Doing so will help you become effective and efficient in your Christian walk. Above all, it will help you become more productive, because one of the key things wrong habits destroy in your life is your productivity, and God does not want that for you. Praise God!
