“…The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit?” (Proverbs 18:14 NKJV)
As long as you are in this world, you will face circumstances that challenge you, break your heart, and put you in uncomfortable positions. These situations can often leave you feeling emotionally drained. However, no matter what comes your way, you must resolve not to let life’s challenges crush your spirit. Sadly, many believers find themselves in this predicament. They allow their trials to overwhelm them emotionally and break their spirits, but this is not God’s plan for their lives.
You might say, “It’s not easy to face such situations without feeling broken.” This is understandable. Feeling emotionally low at times is normal because you are human, but it should not progress to the point where your spirit is broken. When your spirit is crushed, it impacts every aspect of your life—your health, your mindset, and even your relationships.
Our opening scripture reminds us: “The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit?” (Proverbs 18:14 NKJV). The Message translation puts it this way: “A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed?” (Proverbs 18:14 MSG). This emphasizes that when your spirit is strong and healthy, you can conquer any adversity, whether spiritual or physical.
You must understand that the strength of your life lies in your spirit. Your identity as a new creation is rooted in your spirit. By diligently guarding it and refusing to let it be crushed, you position yourself to prevail over any life challenge. So, I encourage you to stand firm, protect your spirit, and refuse to allow life’s challenges to break you. Praise God!
