“…death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits…”Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)

One power that God gave to us to chart our course through life is the power of the tongue. In it lies the power of death and also the power of life. So the question is, when you speak in general, what comes out of your mouth? When you talk about the circumstances of your life, what do you say about them? Do you speak life or death? Are your words keeping you bound or helping you enjoy liberty? Beloved, you might have not always been conscious of this, but it is important that you should henceforth begin to mind the things that are coming out of your mouth. You might not know it but your words determine your experience in life. The things you say will either make you or break you, so you have to be mindful and be careful. When you take a look at our opening text, the bible says “…death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits…”Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV). If you take a closer look at the text here, you see that it used the word “death” first before using “life”, why? Because death is easier to speak often. That is what easily comes out of the mouth of people. So you must make a conscious decision to eliminate death from your mouth and increase the use of words that brings life to your body, finances, business, family etc.

You might not know how powerful this is, but trust me it is very powerful. In the book of James 3:4-5, the Bible says, “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature”. Did you see that? That’s how powerful the tongue can be, though it is small, it can determine the whole course of our lives. So if you truly want to reap the fruits of the tongue, use your mouth well. Begin today to take advantage of the power of life in your tongue and use it decorate your life and set things right. Stop complaining, stop cursing and murmuring, all these are seeds that lead to the fruits of death. God bless you!
