“…He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion…” Psalms 95:7-8 (NKJV)

As Children of God, it’s important that we understand the role of worship in our walk with God. It is a major activity in our relationship with Him. We can’t give Him gifts or presents to express our love and gratitude to Him because He is a Spirit and not a man. So the only way to express what we feel and how we feel towards Him, is to give Him praises and worship through our songs and offerings. Now, the expected thing to do when worship of any kind is going on in the house of God, is to respond in worship and lift up your heart to God. But sadly that is not the case today. When worship songs are going on in church, you see people getting bored. When offerings are being given in church, you see people who are just looking around as though something strange is going on. When a prayer session is going on, you will see God’s people on their phones distracted, you know why? Because they have not cultivated the habit of responding to God in worship. Somehow, their heart is still hardened towards God and they don’t even know it. You hardly see them break down in tears during worship or prayers, because they are not sensitive to God at all.  Little wonder, such people get surprised when others are worshiping God in tears. They just can’t understand why people should be crying in worship. But the truth of the matter is that, they only think this way because they have not come to understand true worship and how to respond to it. However, that’s why I am writing this article today, to enlighten you on the importance of responding to worship. It is not a thing for some selected few, it is for everybody, including you.

What God wants from us in our walk with Him, is worship and to give God true worship, you can’t do it with your head but your heart. It has to come from your heart and when that happens, your outward man which is your physical body responds to it. Meaning, you must make your outward man respond to what it is feeling on the inside. If a worship song is going on in church, the next thing that should happen is to lift up your hands to God in worship. If praises is going on in church, the next thing that should happen is to start dancing. If offerings are being given in church, then the next thing that should happen, should be to participate. Your singing, dancing and lifting up of your hands, is all an act of worship. They are physical acts that communicates your innermost feelings for God. Therefore, make a conscious decision to always respond to worship, refuse to harden your heart but worship Him and give Him the praise that is due to Him. For it is written, “Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool – He is Holy” Psalms 99:5(NKJV) “for great is the Lord and most worthy of praise” 1 Chronicles 16:25 (NIV). Halleluiah!

When any form of worship is going on, do not harden your heart but respond to it, it’s a sign of reverence!

I worship you oh my Father, I give you all the praises and adoration that is due to you.  You are my King and my God. Splendour and Majesty are before you, Strength and Joy are in your dwelling place. Therefore I worship you in the Splendour of your Holiness in the name of Jesus. Amen!
