“…fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult…” Proverbs 12:16 (NIV)

The situation in the world today has made lots and lots of people act in an angry way and trust me, you will be offended several times. You will be insulted, abused, and ridiculed for different reasons but the question is when this happens, how do you react? Do you pick up a fight with them or do you get into a heated argument with them? Well, if you do that, it will only make it worse and you will be no different from them. So, the best thing to do in such a situation would be to overlook the insult or abuse and move on with your life. I know this might not sound reasonable but the truth is that, as a believer, you have a responsibility to always avoid anything that will bring problems between you and people. So, whenever such a situation presents itself, do not hesitate to walk away. People may call you a fool, they may say all sorts of things about you, but guess what, walking away does not reduce you or take anything away from you. It’s only proof that you are wise and more mature. The Bible says in our opening text that, “…fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult…” Proverbs 12:16 (NIV). Did you see that? Fools show their annoyance and probably pick a fight, but a wise man overlooks it and walks away.

Now, you have a responsibility to choose who you will become in times like this. I know you might say but sir, this is not as easy as it has been stated here, well, it may not be easy for the natural man. But for the man who is in Christ, you can do it because you have the Holy Spirit of God, who has come to produce in you the fruits of the Spirit. Your responsibility is to yield yourself to Him and let Him manifest the fruits of the Spirit through you. And “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” Galatians 5:22 (NIV). When these fruits are at work in your life, trust me, it doesn’t matter how offended you are or who offended you, you will always find the strength and courage to walk away without getting into any kind of argument or whatsoever. So, I admonish you today, to take this article seriously and become conscious of the truth you have learned today. Let go of the insults and move on with your life. If you can do this, it will help you excel in your career place, family, marriage, and all other places where you have to relate with people.
