“…abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me…” —John 15:4 (NKJV)

If I were to ask you where you live, I know you will certainly call the name of an area in your locality which is not a bad idea, but guess what, though you are there physically, God does not want you to live there spiritually because it could affect you negatively in the physical. Every area has a spiritual environment, and they tend to influence people who stay there negatively. So, to avoid this, you must make sure that you submit your spirit man to God’s word and be controlled by it. In other words, you will make up your mind to follow the dictates of God’s word and not the dictates of the environment where you stay. I am not saying you should become a lawbreaker in your society; far be it that I should suggest such. However, I am only saying, do not allow the things going on there to influence you but rather let the word of God be your influence.

The Bible told us the story of a man named Lot, the nephew of Papa Abraham. He got separated from Papa Abraham and went to a city called Sodom and Gomorrah to settle down, but it so happened that when he was there, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah lived a terrible life, and they sinned against God. Even though Lot was in their midst, he didn’t live like them. He still had the fear of the Lord because He knew God’s word and chose to stay true to God’s word (Scripture Reference: Genesis 18:20-33, 19:1-38). Instead of submitting to their way of life because he lived there, he chose rather to stay in God’s word and because of that, he was saved in the end while the others perished. God, at this point, wants us to do the same in our lives. He wants us to live in His word spiritually and be controlled fully by His word. Amazingly, when we do this, we are the ones that reap the blessings. Jesus Christ said, “…he who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit….” John 15:5 (NKJV), meaning he will prosper without measure. Now, remember, He is the Word that became flesh and dwelt amongst men (John 1:14). So when you live in the word, you are indirectly living in Christ, which automatically preserves you and sets you in the course you should go. So, I encourage you today to live in God’s word, for that is the best place to be and be stirred in the positive direction. Praise God!

Let God’s word be your influence and not your environment!

Glorious God! How wonderful you are in all the earth and beyond! I thank you for opening my eyes to understanding where I should live spiritually. Therefore, I take advantage of this truth today, and I submit myself completely to your word, and I choose to be controlled and influenced by it for my profiting in the name of Jesus. Amen!
