“…give your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart……that I may discern between good and evil…” —1 Kings 3:9 (AMP)

In our opening scripture, the Bible gave an account of how God visited Solomon in a dream by night and asked him to ask whatever he willed and in response to that, he said “…give your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart……that I may discern between good and evil…” 1 Kings 3:9 (AMP). And the Bible recorded that Solomon’s response pleased the Lord a great deal (1 Kings 3:10) because he didn’t ask for riches, or long life or the life of his enemies but for an understanding mind and a hearing heart. What a request! These days, you will hardly find people who will give such a response when opportunities like that are thrown at them. Beloved, there is a lot to learn from that little conversation that King Solomon had with God. I believe that if we are going to have a fruitful and fulfilling walk with God, we must go for an understanding mind and a hearing heart. It is a very important virtue that is needed in our world today to be able to succeed in life and walk in the path God wants us to walk in. You know that God does not want us to be just successful, he also wants us to be successful in His eyes because not all success is success in God’s eyes.

So, for this to happen, you must be attuned to the voice and promptings of God, by having an understanding mind and having a hearing heart. It is such an important trait that you should develop. Learn to pay attention to God and His promptings and most importantly when God has communicated you, be quick to carry them out because that is the key to productivity. God’s promptings here, could be a message heard in church, or a statement read in the Bible or a Christian material or it could even be an impression upon your heart or perhaps an audible voice of God. Whatever it is, give attention to it, try to understand what it is saying and make a conscious decision to carry it. The advantages of having a hearing heart cannot be overemphasized, therefore consider cultivating one. Don’t be like many out there who are completely deaf towards God. They are not paying attention and as such are not able to know when God is speaking or trying to communicate with them. They are so adamant that sometimes, even if they know God is trying to get their attention on something, they just pay deaf ears to it. It is not a place to be, so be encouraged to come out of that place and start raising yourself in the right way. Expect God to communicate with you and not only so, be willing to take what He has to say and be ready to get them done and you will be amazed how your life will turn around. Praise God!
