“…as you, therefore, have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving..” Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV)

There are different phases in our Christian walk. There is the babyhood stage where we like to be pampered by God and then the adulthood stage where we prove God’s word in our lives. Now, of these two stages, we are expected to move from being a baby Christian to becoming a matured Christian. This is because when you remain a baby Christian, you can be easily swept off your feet by any wind of doctrine or challenges that sometimes comes to test our faith in Christ Jesus. But when you are matured in Christ Jesus, no matter what you face or go through or hear, it doesn’t move you because you are not just in Christ Jesus but deeply rooted in Him. So it is important that you develop yourself through God’s word to become a mature son of God.

Much as God would love to keep pampering you always as a baby Christian, He wants you to move from there and start handling strong meat. When you are matured, no matter the news in town or the seemingly impossible challenge that are before you, you don’t shake a bit because your roots are deep. So become conscious of this and start developing yourself deliberately. The days of being a baby-Christian are gone, now God expects you to wake up and grow up. You might say, is it compulsory to start working on myself, I thought, once you have received Jesus into your life that is all? Well, am sorry to say this but that is not all. Receiving Jesus into your life is just the beginning. You have the responsibility to go beyond having Him in your life to developing yourself in Him through His words and teachings. His words help you grow and develop tenacity in the faith. The need for a firm foundation in Christ Jesus cannot be overemphasized. It helps you to stand and withstand in the evil day. It helps you to maintain a grip on the integrity of the word and not be tempted to abandon the faith. It helps you to stand firm when controversial doctrinal issues come up. It helps you to remain standing even when the storms of life are coming hard at you. But you must store up the words of Jesus Christ in your heart and be ready to do them when the need arises. Jesus Christ said something that is worthy of serious attention. He said “…whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock and the rain descended, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand; and the rain descended, the floods came, and winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell. And great was its fall…” Matthew 7:24-26 (NKJV). Meaning it is necessary to hear and do His words because that drives your roots deeper in Him. So what would you do with this information today? Get to work and don’t wait. Praise God!

TODAY’S RHEMA

Without a firm foundation in Christ Jesus, the Christian walk will not be a smooth one!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Jesus is my firm foundation, therefore, my roots continue to go deeper in Him by the reason of His words and principles. I refuse to be tossed to and fro by any wind of doctrine because I know who I’m, I know what I have got and I know whose I am. I’m unshakeable, hence I’m going deeper in God by the day in Jesus name. Amen!
