“…he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does…” —James 1:25 (NKJV)

The idea many people have is that if God has said something about them, it is God’s responsibility to bring it to pass. They feel that they do not have any role to play in ensuring that God’s promises and desires for their life come to pass. So, they relax and say I am waiting on God. And when things seem not to be working, they come back and say nothing is working, meanwhile, they have neglected their role.

Beloved, in your walk with God, you must understand that you have a role to play in making sure that God’s promises are fulfilled in your life. God’s responsibility is to make His desires known to you, but you decide to make it work. A perfect example of this truth is the account of Elijah the prophet. After he had declared that there would be no rain for three years, there was indeed a drought for that duration of time (1 King 17:1-2). But when it was time for the rain to return, the Bible recorded that “…the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain…” 1 Kings 18:1 (NKJV)

This was God’s desire, and anyone would expect that because it was God who told Elijah that He would send rain, Elijah could sit back and watch. But it didn’t happen that way. When it was time for it to rain according to the word of the Lord, Elijah had to pray. In 1 Kings 18:42-46,“…Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground and put his face between his knees and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea” So he went up and looked and said there is nothing. At the seventh time he said, go again” meaning that Elijah had to stay put in the place of prayer and he kept on seeking the face of God concerning His word. So it came to pass that at the seventh time, the servant said, “…there is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea…” And Elijah stood up from the place of prayer. He did not fold his hands and say “God, you already said you will send rain, so I am waiting” No, He had to entreat the Lord in the prayers. In the same way, you ought to play your part. When God says such and such will take place in your life, you have a responsibility to go back to God in prayers and enforce what He has promised. The devil will always want to make sure that God’s promises for your life are not fulfilled but when you pray, you frustrate the plans of the devil and enforce the will of God. Therefore, get ready to start playing your own role from today. Praise God!

Prayers help to frustrate the plans of the devil and enforce the will of God!

Heavenly father I thank you for reminding me of my role in enforcing your will for my life, I declare that by the power of your Spirit, my role in enforcing your will, will be taken seriously and as I fulfill my part, your words are coming to pass in my life in the name of Jesus. Amen!
