“…it’s written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God…” Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)

As you grow in the Christian walk, it is important to understand that we are not meant to study the Word of God alone but to feed on it. In other words, we are meant to move from just reading to feeding on it so that we can live by it. This might sound a little strange but that is the truth. The Word of God is not just some set of words written to encourage you. It’s more than that, it is life for the believer and food for our human Spirit. It strengthens our inner man and helps us to develop the quality of our human spirit. Therefore, it is important that we give attention to this truth and change our attitude towards the Word. Move a little further in your dealings with the Word of God and start feeding on it. It was this truth our Lord Jesus Christ was trying to communicate when He said to the devil, “…it’s written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God…” Matthew 4:4 (NKJV). He knew the importance of God’s word, so when He gave the devil that reply he could not refute Jesus.

Now, you might ask but what’s the significance of this? Well, I will explain. Christianity is a spiritual race where our reality is based on God’s Word and not the happenings in the world. If you truly want to live every day in the reality that the word of God reveals to us and enjoy the glorious life that Jesus Christ brought to us through His finished works, then you must feed on the word of God so that you can live by it.

So I admonish you today to move beyond studying the word of God to feeding on it. Meaning, when you study it, understand it and meditate on it. Let it become your final authority and reason for being. When you live like this, it doesn’t matter what goes on out there in the world, it doesn’t matter what the devil tries to throw at you. You will not be bothered or defeated because your life source and inspiration is not from the world but the word of God. Therefore, start now and start early, maintain a schedule for this purpose and make it a day to day routine. Halleluiah!
