“…as the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God…”– Psalms 42:1-2 (NKJV)

Do you know that as you journey in your Christian walk, it is your responsibility to cultivate a yearning for God? Do you realize that if you are not deliberate about it, your passion for God may grow cold? As a child of God, if you truly want to go far with God and enjoy your inheritance in Christ Jesus, you have to deliberately cultivate your passion for God. The Psalmist understood the importance of this and said, “…as the dear pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God…”– Psalms 42:1-2 (NKJV). He knew this was the way forward, He knew there was no other way out but to genuinely thirst for God. I know you might say, but is it that necessary? The answer is yes, first because if you do not thirst for God, you can’t see Him move mightily in your life. In Isaiah 44:3, God said, “…I will pour water on Him that is thirsty…” Did you see that? It is the man who is thirsty for God that receives that refreshment from God. But when you are estranged from God, nothing happens. So it is important that you thirst and yearn for God, It’s in your best interest.

The second reason why you should thirst for God, is because in times of great trial or distress, it is your craving for God that can keep you going. Sometimes, the challenges of life can be so tough that all you just want to do is quit, because of the pressure that the challenges comes with, but when your craving for God is high, you cling on to God more, knowing very well, that in Him alone is solution. So I encourage you today, to cultivate your yearning for God and His righteousness. I know you might say, but how can I do that? It’s not difficult, get yourself to study, pray and fast on a regular basis. These three activities will always pull you towards God. Stay away from so much of the world and its pleasure, they pull you away from God without you knowing it. So submit yourself to God and His word and watch your life go in the direction that God wants you walk in. Praise God!
